Short bio
Phoenix and the Angel is a British rock band founded and led by singer-songwriter Guy Phoenix. The project blends modern rock with autobiographical, story-led songwriting drawn from the places Guy has lived and travelled — Nottingham, Tokyo, the United Arab Emirates and the British Virgin Islands.
Full biography
Phoenix and the Angel is the rock music project of British singer-songwriter Guy Phoenix. Their debut album, "Places that I Remember", is a 10-track studio record released on 16 January 2026, produced by Casey Wood and recorded at Nashville, Tennessee in October 2025.
Each song on the album is autobiographical. "Roppongi Nights" captures Guy's three years as an expat in Tokyo in the mid-1990s; "Do the Fourteen" remembers his student years at Nottingham University and the campus pub crawl challenge of drinking a pint in each of the 14 campus bars in one evening; "Life in the Emirates" is a rock cover reflecting eight years growing up in Dubai and Abu Dhabi; "Anegada" and "Luxury Girl" are drawn from eleven years sailing and living in the British Virgin Islands; "F1 Baby!" celebrates a lifelong passion for Formula 1 motor racing.
At the heart of the album are two ballads — "When the Light Goes Out" and its closing reprise — written in tribute to Trixie, Guy's dog of nearly 16 years, who passed away in January 2025. The final reprise ends with audio of Trixie running along the beach at Smuggler's Bay, Tortola.
